About Dr. Mildred Berry
Mildred Berry Center is named after Rockford educator and child advocate Dr. Mildred Berry (1902-1993). She was an internationally renowned speech pathologist, lecturer and author. She was the second woman in the United States to receive a Ph.D. in speech pathology and taught at Rockford College for 36 years. Children, especially those in need, were one of Dr. Berry’s special passions. She served on the Janet Wattles Center board and as the board president for many years. In 1985, the child and adolescent division of that organization – the Mildred Berry Center - was named in honor of her and her dedicated work on behalf of children and families.
